At Bike Addict we know that lights play a big role in your cycling. They serve multiple functions, from alerting cars and pedestrians of your presence, to helping you see in the dark. Bike Addict has an excellent catalogue of different types of lights, with something for any budget, any terrain preference, and cyclists of all levels of experience. Lezyne, Ryder Bikes, and Avalanche Bicycle Company products are all available.

Before you know it, you’ll be knocking out more night-rides, improving your overall fitness and skill level, and having a great time in the process!

The biggest factor to consider when you’re buying lights for your bike is whether they can give you enough brightness for your preferred terrain. If you generally coast along flatter landscapes you can easily get away with between 1 000 and 1 500 lumens, the measure of light output. But if you ride very fast or very technically you will need to double that.

The way your bike’s light is distributed is also important and we always recommend having at least two, one your helmet and the other on your bar. The bar light takes care of most of the heavy requirements and should ideally be the more powerful of the two and have a wide beam pattern. This will ensure that you can see the trail in front of you properly.

The light on your helmet should be more focused and will let you spot turns in good time, see beyond obstacles and deal with them more easily, and even see your gears. Because this beam is concentrated, it means this light doesn’t have to be as powerful as your bar one is, so you can investigate options that are cheaper, lighter, and smaller.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help deciding what kind of lights you need, we’re happy to assist anytime.
